Rays of Sonshine is one of very few programs in the state which provides services for pregnant women. We also welcome, and encourage, women to bring their children to live with them during their treatment. We prefer that ladies come alone initially, provided their children have a safe place to reside. Once the mother is accustomed to the routine, usually a couple of weeks, children may move to the house with them. Certified behavioral instructors provide a variety of activities for children, including age-specific classes for adult children of alcoholics.
Pregnant women who enter our program are allowed plenty of time with their newborns: they are allowed to remain at the residence for several weeks and then they may bring the child with them as they return to classes at our clinic.
For Moms: parenting groups, parent child activities, parent coaching, home visits, peer discussion groups, opportunities for mothers to observe and participate in discipline and behavior skills, social activities to develop relationships with other moms and children, special intervention and service connection training through individual sessions with qualified staff, extensive library of parenting topics available for viewing, discipline using "time outs" and other alternatives to spanking.
For Children: interactive play, art therapy, Bible study/scripture time, age-relevant teaching, chores and responsibilities, song time, puzzles, memory games, exercise, social skills, manners
